Snow Adventure | Wake Forest Lifestyle Newborn Photographer

Sophia emailed in the summer about a newborn session. I had a long time to look forward to meeting their family and photographing their newest addition! I’m always a little nervous about sessions in the winter here. North Carolina weather seems to be all over the place in the first months of the year and you never know what to expect.

We had to reschedule this session twice. First, due to dark clouds and rain and the second time due to SNOW. Remember that snowy weekend we had back in January? With all of that lovely ice? I’m originally from up north where snow is snow and we all drive on it, but living here has made me a nervous wreck when venturing out in snow. After two reschedules I didn’t have the heart to reschedule again (getting the family ready for a session takes time and I hate when my sweet clients have to do it more than once!). The roads looked decent around us in Apex so I thought we’d be good to go. Wake Forest was not so driveable. The roads were still covered in snow and ice and my good friend, Google Maps, thought it would be a good idea to avoid the main roads (the ones that were decently cleared).

I was three minutes away. Almost there, and I came to a hill mostly still covered in snow and ice.

I thought if I went fast enough, I’d be fine. I realized half way up I was pretty wrong. I was stuck in the middle of the hill only a few minutes away and backwards, down an icy hill, was my only option. I won’t leave you hanging and I’ll spare the details; I made it back down. I was only a few minutes late to their session and we had a great time.

This family was so sweet. I loved that they had a wall full of family photos! Big sister was still warming up to her new baby sister, but I was determined to get a sweet shot of her and her baby sis (it’s at the bottom of this post!). We worked hard for a few of the shots, but it is worth it. Every. single. time.

Raleigh, NC Child Photographer | Fun at the JC Raulston Arboretum

I was so happy to see these sisters again this fall! I am always amazed at just how much my little clients grow in just a year and I love that they remember me and jump right into photos. Last year, we went to Bond Park for their session and we decided on JC Raulston Arboretum this time around. The arboretum is one of my favorite locations because there is a good variety of scenery and so much room to run around.

We jumped around the arboretum so that we could shoot in my main favorite spots. The girls didn’t need much direction because as you can see, they are full of silliness and personality. We had a great sunny evening that gave us some magical images.

Apex, NC Lifestyle Family Photographer | A Sweet Lifestyle Session

Sarah is a good friend and I’m glad we switched it up a little from an outdoor family session and did a lifestyle family session in their home this time around. I did a few lifestyle family sessions this fall and I’m falling in love with them more and more. I hope to fill a big part of my schedule with lifestyle sessions this year!

We loosely planned out their session to include activities like preparing food together in the kitchen and reading on the couch. I like to capture kids in their element so we spent time in the playroom and in Sofia’s room. Sofia loves her baby doll and I’m pretty sure all kids love jumping on their beds. These were definitely some of my favorite images from their session.

This sweet family is hoping to add to their family through adoption. I cannot wait to see this family welcome home a sibling for Sophia. Their adoption site is: www.chrisandsarahadopt.com and their Facebook page is: https://www.facebook.com/chrisandsarahadopt/

Apex, NC Lifestyle Newborn Photographer | The K Family Welcomes Baby N

The new year has settled and we are finally getting back into a routine. Blogging is toward the top of my to-do list and I’m hoping to catch up quickly. So, we will rewind back to the summer and pretend that I am not horribly behind on blogging sessions.

You might recognize mom and dad from their lifestyle and outdoor maternity session (when they rocked their session in the awful summer heat). Don’t they have the sweetest little girl? I always encourage anyone who is expecting to book a maternity session with a lifestyle newborn session. I know I talk about this a lot, but I say it because I truly believe both are equally important to document. I started offering mini maternity sessions to make the decision to add one on a bit easier; maternity minis are not long and galleries have the perfect number of images to choose from.

I was thrilled when Lauren inquired about both sessions. It was fun to repeat a few of their indoor maternity images with Baby N. She slept a ton for her session and made my job easy. She even cooperated when she was awake! I hope she is always that good for her mom and dad.

Sleeping newborns are probably the sweetest thing on this planet, but I do like to sneak in a few with them with their eyes open and looking around. Their little personalities and features seem more alive and I always picture parents comparing images as their child grows with them. Awake shots are becoming a must for my lifestyle newborn sessions.

Hello, 2017 | Apex Family Photographer

I still can’t believe it is 2017! I guess we are only a few days in and I’m still in vacation mode. Today everyone is back to their normal places and normal schedules. I have lots of blogging to catch up on and updates to make. I’m not making any big pricing changes this year, however I am adding something a little different for this spring. For March and April I will have 5 half sessions available in addition to my standard sessions. They are a little different from mini sessions because it’s not one set date with a choice of a time slot. I pick the spot (plan on it being an Apex location), but we set the date. These are limited to child and family sessions. Newborn, extended family and large group sessions are not included. To inquire or book visit the contact page!
