The new year has settled and we are finally getting back into a routine. Blogging is toward the top of my to-do list and I’m hoping to catch up quickly. So, we will rewind back to the summer and pretend that I am not horribly behind on blogging sessions.

You might recognize mom and dad from their lifestyle and outdoor maternity session (when they rocked their session in the awful summer heat). Don’t they have the sweetest little girl? I always encourage anyone who is expecting to book a maternity session with a lifestyle newborn session. I know I talk about this a lot, but I say it because I truly believe both are equally important to document. I started offering mini maternity sessions to make the decision to add one on a bit easier; maternity minis are not long and galleries have the perfect number of images to choose from.

I was thrilled when Lauren inquired about both sessions. It was fun to repeat a few of their indoor maternity images with Baby N. She slept a ton for her session and made my job easy. She even cooperated when she was awake! I hope she is always that good for her mom and dad.

Sleeping newborns are probably the sweetest thing on this planet, but I do like to sneak in a few with them with their eyes open and looking around. Their little personalities and features seem more alive and I always picture parents comparing images as their child grows with them. Awake shots are becoming a must for my lifestyle newborn sessions.

I still can’t believe it is 2017! I guess we are only a few days in and I’m still in vacation mode. Today everyone is back to their normal places and normal schedules. I have lots of blogging to catch up on and updates to make. I’m not making any big pricing changes this year, however I am adding something a little different for this spring. For March and April I will have 5 half sessions available in addition to my standard sessions. They are a little different from mini sessions because it’s not one set date with a choice of a time slot. I pick the spot (plan on it being an Apex location), but we set the date. These are limited to child and family sessions. Newborn, extended family and large group sessions are not included. To inquire or book visit the contact page!

Most of the maternity sessions I photograph are outdoor sessions, but this couple had asked if we could do a mix of lifestyle and outdoor photos. They live right next to a greenway (which as it turns out connects to my street!) so it was easy to pop outside for a bit. I love lifestyle family sessions and to no surprise I fell in love with lifestyle maternity as well.

This lifestyle newborn session was the last in a trio of sessions – maternity, fresh 48 and lifestyle newborn. I am always thrilled when clients book a maternity and newborn session with me. I get a chance to know them and follow their baby journey. Becca emailed me inquiring about the three sessions and I was so happy when she booked them all. I have always customized baby packages for clients, but I’m putting an official baby plan together after enjoying these multiple milestone sessions so much.

After already photographing two sessions for this family, their newborn sessions felt like hanging out with friends. Getting to know my clients is one of the parts about this photography gig that I love so much. All of their sessions have been fun and easy going and this one was no exception.

Big brother A is rocking it as a big brother. He was so gentle with his little brother and said the sweetest things while I was photographing them together. There were definitely some happy, heartfelt tears in the room. Mom and Dad were seasoned pros and this baby is one lucky little guy.

I can’t finish this post before I at least mention that this Mama has some serious baby nursery decorating talent. The theme she chose, the wall art and the details were absolutely perfect.

Fresh 48 sessions are available on a limited basis due to them requiring me to be available over a large span of time; you never know exactly when those babies are going to decide it’s their birthday. If only due dates were actually 100% accurate! But. I absolutely love these sessions and wish that I could shoot so many more. They always take me back to my hospital stays with each of my three kids. I love witnessing my clients’ experience of those first hospital days of endless baby snuggles through a camera lens. If you are on the fence about booking a Fresh 48 session, I definitely recommend booking one!

If you remember this family from their maternity session, you might notice that someone is missing. Unfortunately big brother ended up sick the night before the session and couldn’t come to the hospital. Mom booked their Fresh 48 in a big part to the post I wrote about siblings and Fresh 48s (check it out here!) so I was bummed right along with them. Luckily, we were able to get some special photographs of big brother at their lifestyle newborn session a couple of weeks later.

Baby N was absolute adorableness. I mean, look at his hair and that sweet face. Mom and Dad handled his fussiness with ease, making their session a breeze.
